CyPi & Chicken Man Release Update!

Posted by FunPix - 6 hours ago

Hey all, after much reflection I’ve decided swap the release order for Cyberspace Pirates Vol.1 and Chicken Man Vol.2.

Chicken Man Vol.2 which will be titled ‘Rise of the Bunions’ is now slated for release in Q2 2026. They first installment of the Cyberspace Pirates (CyPi) is now planned to launch in 2028, it will also be release in smaller installments I’m calling ‘Episodes’.

Why the change up?

To put it simply: Chicken Man 2 is just the funniest and most out there comic I’ve ever written, and it would be a crime to make the world wait any longer to see it!

The long answer: Time, budget, passion, and commitment to quality!

CyPi was originally intended to be release in 2020 but went under significant re-writes during the covid-19 pandemic. The re-written season 1 scripts (Episodes 1-12) were competed in 2022, with the intent to start releasing the series in 2024. But due to economical hardships caused by animation industry crash I was forced to pivot my focus on creating a stronger animation portfolio to secure steady work to pay the bills and finance my creative projects. This also included moving away from making comics and focusing on developing my Blender storyboarding Add-on ActionBoards.

With the 2024 release date in mind for CyPi, Chicken Man 2 was slated for release in 2025 (Making a 3-year gap between the first book.) Though due to the previously mentioned economic struggles the earliest I could get my next book released would be in 2026. If that production slot was given to CyPi that would put Chicken Man 2 in a 2027-2028 release window. (5-6 years removed from vol.1) That is FAR to long to keep fans waiting for the next instalment of Chicken Man. (I want to release a new book each year!) For this reason, it is necessary to push production of CyPi after Chicken Man 2.

In the meantime, I will be continuing to create content for CyPi in the form of animatics. These animatic wills serve 3 purposes; Showcase Cyberspace Pirates’ potential as an animated series, demonstrate the advancements of the ActionBoards storyboarding add-on, and to create more pre-production assets to get series production running smoothly.

A single volume of Chicken Man is a lot less work to complete than a single volume of CyPi. (As it’s a black and white comic series.) I can realistically release a new Chicken Man volume every 12 months… Whereas CyPi being full colour and semi-interactive, only one volume can be completed every 2 years. (With funding for a small team of 3 people I could cut this down to just 1 year.)

With this new release schedule, I’ll be able to complete comics at a more reasonable pace, which creates more reliable delivery expectations and flexibility to ensure the proper time is given to each book to make them high quality! I’m excited to be getting back into comic production and can’t wait to get these kick ass stories out to y’all!
